Pastor Miles Hopgood

Pastor Miles Hopgood was called to serve Abiding Presence Lutheran Church on January 5, 2020. Born and raised in Lexington, Kentucky, he first came to New Jersey in 2013 to pursue a PhD in Church History at Princeton Theological Seminary, which he completed just prior to his arrival at Abiding Presence by defending a dissertation on Martin Luther’s lectures on Deuteronomy. Prior to studying at Princeton Seminary, Pastor Miles lived in Chicago for seven years, where he earned both his Masters of Divinity and Bachelors at the University of Chicago.
While studying at Princeton Seminary, Pastor Miles met his future wife, Kayla. A fellow graduate of the seminary and trained spiritual director, Kayla divides her time between Oasis Ministries, where she serves as Director of Development. Together, they share their life with their son, Felix, who was born in November of 2019, and a small but mighty herd of chickens. In what spare time he has, Pastor Miles enjoys a number of outdoor activities from rowing to mountaineering. At home, you can find him in the kitchen, where he loves to cook and bake, or around a table playing board games with anyone who’ll join him.
It is a core conviction of Pastor Miles’s ministry that a heart of faith and life of the mind are compliments to one another. He welcomes the opportunity to hear your deep questions and learn more about your journey, wherever it is taking you. Reach out anytime to schedule an appointment, or simply talk to him after worship.
